Samuel Derek Ricketts, born in Aylesbury, is one of the contingent of United's successful youth policy who has made it into the first team squad. Sam's versatility is probably his greatest asset, being able to play anywhere in defence or midfield, with varying degrees of success. Ricketts is also the kind of player who would go down well with managers such as Ian Atkins, due to his workrate and never say die attitude, although he can display a tendency to go missing occasionally when the going gets particularly tough. After an alleged training ground fight with Jefferson Louis he was loaned out to Nuneaton Borough in the Vauxhall Conference in October 2002, having only made one substitute appearance so far that season. After Telford went bust he was snapped up by Swansea, and became a Wales international, joining Hull with whom he won promotion to the Premiership. Four England Semi-Pro caps, 18 Wales caps.
