Windass, born in Hull, was a record buy for the club, joining from Aberdeen for £475,000. This was money that the club didn`t actually possess, but that was okay because they held off paying for him until he was sold to Bradford City for £1 million, eight months later. Unfortunately, he soured his early good reputation when it became clear that he wanted to leave, and in his final game, at QPR, he was roundly criticised for not trying.
