Michael Bernard Salmon, goalkeeper born in Leyland, came on loan from Charlton Athletic, and his only game happened to be United's worst ever home defeat. To be fair to Salmon, he was directly responsible for only four of the seven goals he conceded, but that was enough to ensure that he never again pulled on an Oxford shirt.
