David Francis Langan, born Dublin. He joined Oxford from Birmingham City, where Jim Smith had signed him from Derby County for £350,000, which was then a record for a fullback, and a record for Birmingham. He hadn't played for the Blues for over a year because of injury, but Smith was keen to bring him to Oxford, who he joined on a free transfer. His career ended at Peterborough United, cut short by injury brought on as a result of all the various cortisone injections he had in his knees throughout his career. He had several knee operations to try and repair the damage, and also two spinal fusion operations after cracking vertebrae, first at Birmingham and then at Peterborough. Langan is now registered disabled and has to take pain-killers regularly, while working for Peterborough Council. 25 Ireland caps. United legend.
