Milija Antony Aleksic was the first goalkeeper of Yugoslav descent to play for Oxford when he joined on loan from Plymouth Argyle in August 1976, although he was actually born in the somewhat less exotic Newcastle-under-Lyme. Aleksic played just two games for United, both against Cambridge United in the League Cup first round. His time at the club wasn't too successful though: although United won the first leg 1-0 at the Manor, they went down 2-0 at the Abbey to be knocked out of the competition.

Aleksic started his career at Stafford Rangers, from where he joined Plymouth, and as well as Oxford he also went on loan to Ipswich. He joined Luton in December 1976, and then had a memorable spell at Tottenham Hotspur, who he joined two years later. After a loan to Sheffield United, Aleksic played in goal for Spurs when they beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final, when Ricardo Villa bamboozled most of the City defence, including future United defender Tommy Caton. He finished his career on loan back to Luton in November 1981. Died suddenly aged 61 in Johannesburg on 17 October 2012.
