JANUARY

From the Rage Online newsdesk Tuesday, August 20th, 2002

The first of January, Ninety-One,
Saw the boys from Ipswich Town undone.
Jimmy and John put us 2-nil ahead
And by the time Town scored the game was dead.

Then off to the Bridge the away fans went,
To see Chelsea’s season given a dent.
United in red were a delight to the eye,
We left SW6 on an incredible high.

Back to the Manor for the U’s versus County,
The Magpies looked to have stolen the bounty,
But they reckoned without messrs. Melville and Stein,
It was as good a comeback as I’ve ever seen.

Unbeaten so far, since the old year has passed,
We all asked ourselves, ‘How long will it last?’
The answer, regrettably, was swiftly to come,
As we got stuffed by some b*****ds from Brum.

In the Mickey Mouse Cup tie at Ipswich Town,
Poor Steve McLaren got badly knocked down.
It’s time the supporters began a petition,
To stop us playing in this competition.

Then it was time for a really big game,
As the U’s took on Spurs at White Hart Lane.
Gazza and pals quickly went 2-nil up,
And we looked to be heading out of the Cup.

But still there was plenty of Oxford spirit,
And Foylie’s two goals kept us very much in it,
So that when at the end the ref’s whistle blew,
Five thousand fans sang, ‘We’re proud of you.’

So that was the end of our exploits in Jan,
An enjoyable month for every U’s fan.
If we keep playing the way that we’ve done,
We might just get close to Division One!
